- Application: To apply the wax, you typically rub the stick directly along the length of the bowstring. Some waxes come in a stick form, similar to a lipstick, which can be twisted from the base for application. Using a piece of fabric cord or leather, rubbed along the string, can further help distribute the wax evenly and remove excess.
